There is a catch - the coin is illegal and may be subject to seizure by the U.S. Secret Service if the precedent of the 1933 Double Eagle applies.  The reward was posted at the 2013 Florida United Numismatists Convention

Only one coins has been declared "legal tender", the fabled 'Farouk-Fenton specimen' which is on display at the New York Federal Reserve Bank, after setting a world record price for a coin of $7,590,000 in 2002.  US American Eagle gold and silver coins

The US Mint sold 80,500 ounces of American Eagle gold bullion coins during February 2013 compared to 21,000 ounces in Feb. 2012 for a 283% increase.

Sales were up 56% in the first two months of 2013, compared to the same period last year. Total gold coin sales for January and February 2013 were 430,500 ounces, with 2012 sales of 124,500 ounces.

American Eagle silver bullion coins sales were 3,368,500 ounces during February, 126% more than in 2012. January and February silver coin sales were 10,866,500 ounces, up 43% from 2012 when 7,597,000 ounces were sold.

Sales of newly minted 2013 US American Eagle gold and silver coins have surged in January as investors are concerned over inflation, the US debt ceiling and monetary quantative easing (printing more money) by central banks.

The US Mint reports that of January 15 silver eagle sales for the month were more than five million ounces. The record monthly sales volume of 6.1 million ounces was in last January 2012. With two weeks remaining in January, gold coin sales were 110,500 oz, compared with 127,000 oz for all of January 2012, on track to surpass the highest monthly tally since 1999.

Some coin dealers are warning of a post-January drop in sales similar to last year's pattern, as early interest tends to wane once the first mintage is over. Gold sales were only 21,000 oz in February in 2012, 1/5th of January's total, and silver sank to around 1.5-million ounces, a quarter of the previous month's record.

US American Eagle gold coin sales are seasonal, with the strongest sales at the start of the year. They fall in the northern hemisphere summer months and pick up again in September for the Indian wedding season. In 2012 buying peaked in November due to fiscal cliff concerns.

Rare Coin Company WA Goes Into Liquidation
9 July 2013 - The Rare Coin Company based in Albany, West Australia, has gone into liquidation owing private investors what is believed to be tens of millions of dollars. The Rare Coin Company encouraged investors nationally and overseas to purchase rare coins and notes which could then be sold at a profit.
The company focused particularly on encouraging Australian farmers to invest in the scheme. It is understood the company has hundreds of creditors who together are owed millions of dollars. Perth-based Sheridans Chartered Accounts has been appointed liquidator.

Bank Notes

Old Banknotes -  In their efforts to deter forgers, designers of paper money have tended to make their notes highly ornate, inadvertently providing a wealth of interest for the collector.
