Surrealist's Public Works are Few and Far Between
Not surprisingly, the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg,
Florida, has the best Dali collection in the world. Lots of museums have
a couple of works, but St. Petersburg has the most. Even if you travel
to Figueras, Spain, where Dali himself is buried, the collection there isn't as vast as in Florida.
Despite what many people assume, however, Dali didn't do a lot of
paintings — mostly he created graphics and etchings. Now, Picasso did
a lot of paintings, and unlike with Dali, many museums have a lot of them.
Both Picasso and Dali have museums dedicated to them, but outside of
those two institutions, the number of Dali's available to the public is
limited. That makes each one very special.
