WILLIE G. DAVIDSON'S 100 YEARS OF HARLEY DAVIDSON
With sexy full-page photo spreads and plenty of motorcycle lore, this commemorative volume celebrates the centennial of the legendary motor company.
Davidson, vice president of Styling at Harley-Davidson and the grandson of one of the original founders, gives a decade-by-decade account of the company and the rise of biker culture.
He describes the tinkerers perfecting the "motorized bicycle" in the basement of the Davidson family home in Milwaukee,
Wisc., in 1903; the role of women riders-who were among the bike's earliest
enthusiasts - and H.O.G. rallies and socials; and, of course, the postwar decades when rebel types "eager to have too much fun" captured the public imagination and forever changed the image of the motorcycle.
The book includes two-page spreads of motorcycles for years during which Harley offered a new design, and Davidson shares his own passion for the machines and his memories of the family business throughout.
For almost 100 years, the Harley-Davidson Motor Company has touched the lives of millions of Americans and millions more around the world.
From the first motorcycle built in a wooden shed in 1903 to the latest V-Rod model, Harley-Davidson motorcycles have become a cultural phenomenon. To celebrate its 100th Anniversary, Harley-Davidson Motor Company, in conjunction with Bulfinch Press, is set to release 100 Years of Harley-Davidson -- a remarkable, personal account of the Company's history written by Willie G. Davidson, grandson of William A. Davidson, one of the company's four founders.
Spanning 288 pages and featuring 500 spectacular images, many rare and unseen,
Years of Harley Davidson by Willie G. Davidson delves into all facets of the famous brand from its freedom-inspired customers, to Willie G's personal insights and family memories, to vintage and present day bikes to races and rallies.
Divided into six eras, each chapter not only details the evolution of the Company, but the role Harley-Davidson has played in American culture.
Willie G's personal memories are shared from the early days of building the brand with dedicated employees to the evolution of the culture, capturing the history of the Harley-Davidson legacy.
The sleek coffee table book tipped with the Harley-Davidson logo is only one component of the Harley-Davidson 100th Anniversary Celebration. In July, the Harley-Davidson Motor Company kicked off a year-long event, beginning with The Open Road Tour - rolling birthday party that is currently traveling to 10 cities throughout North America, Australia, Asia and Europe. The multi-city Celebration doesn't end until the candles are lit at a final Harley-Davidson 100th Anniversary Party in August 2003 at Harley-Davidson's birthplace, Milwaukee, Wis.
Years of Harley Davidson will be available at bookstores everywhere and through online booksellers beginning October 11th.
