Application Process

What happens after I submit my application?
A member of our staff will contact you to schedule a time for training. You will be asked to complete at least 3 test Appraisals that will be reviewed and assessed by our vetting committee.

How do I contact Chatelaine's Antiques Collectibles & Appraisals once I am accepted?
Every expert is our network is assigned an Account Executive - a staff member of Chatelaine's Antiques Collectibles & Appraisals. They will be communicating with you on a regular basis with timely information and are always available to answer questions.

Compensation

How do I earn money with Chatelaine's Antiques Collectibles & Appraisals?
Experts earn income for each Appraisal, Second Opinion and Ask It they complete. For each completed Appraisal and Second Opinion, you will be paid $10; you can elect to do as many as you desire, provided each product is answered within our target time frames. You also earn money through referrals from Chatelaine's Antiques Collectibles & Appraisals should a customer need someone to go to their home for an estate tax appraisal or an appraisal of their entire household contents.

How often will I get paid?
You will be paid on a monthly basis.

How will I know when I have an Appraisal to perform?
It's simple: Just log on to our website as frequently as you are able to. When you do, youll see exactly how many Appraisals are awaiting completion in your area. Youre welcome to perform as many as youd like each time you check in. The system will prompt you about how the process works.

Approximately how much time should I plan on spending per week doing Appraisals?
We anticipate that it will take 10 minutes or less per product.

What if I can't complete a particular Appraisal within 24 hours?
Email your Account Executive as soon as you can and we'll help you decide how to handle it.

What if I'm traveling or can't work for a few days?
No worries just email your Account Executive with some advance notice if you will be gone for a very long time. We'll take up the slack.

Will I know my fellow Appraisers?
Yes, you will have access to all network members through e-mail. Additionally we will build an online community of Experts that can rely on each other for support and knowledge sharing.

Can I really do an accurate Appraisal by looking at photos on a computer screen?
As an expert in your field, you can describe an object at a glance for most inquiries, or you know the specific questions to ask to detect fakes. As digital technology continues to improve rapidly, you ability to quickly appraise objects will grow dramatically. But remember: You can also provide historical information and guidance for people who don't even know where to start.

Legal Questions

Do I have any legal liability for the Appraisals I perform?
You have no liability whatsoever. Our Experts are included in our $3 million liability policy. Chatelaine's Antiques Collectibles & Appraisals is underwritten by one of the nation's most respected insurance providers and all liability rests with us. End of story. All users of the Appraisal service commit to a comprehensive agreement which contains specific disclaimers and language guarding against fraud. Any misinformation provided by the client will void the opinion rendered by Chatelaine's Antiques Collectibles & Appraisals.

Will I communicate directly with clients about their objects?
No. In order to eliminate your liability, the client will receive correspondence from Chatelaine's Antiques Collectibles & Appraisals without you being identified specifically. We provide an option on our Appraisal template that allows you to request more information or pictures from the client for a particular Appraisal if needed.

Do I have to sign a contract?
Yes, you can download the contract from our site. It clearly outlines what we'll provide and what is expected of you in terms of work and ethical behavior.

What if I dont want to do it any more?

No, computer expertise is not necessary. There are two main requirements: access to the Internet and an email address that can receive messages and images. We have a technical support hotline which you can call to get help with any technology questions. Furthermore, each specialty department has a full-time account executive who can answer questions about the process and help Experts in any way possible.
